History: GLAMA is a collecting partnership between the Kansas City Museum, Jackson County (MO) Historical Society, and Miller Nichols Library at the University of Missouri – Kansas City. The partnership was founded in 2009, and there had not been such a defined collecting initiative before that time. GLAMA’s mission is “to collect, preserve, and make accessible the documents and artifacts that reflect the history of the gay and lesbian community of the Kansas City region.”

Current Holdings: Size and Content:
1. Manuscript material (personal papers) – 15 linear feet
2. Film, video, or sound – 3 linear feet of sound recordings
3. Organization's records – 10 linear feet
4. Photographs – 5 linear feet
5. Printed (books, journals, etc.) – 10 linear feet (journals)
What specific time period(s) and geographical region(s) do the holdings cover? 1960s – current day
What significant people, organizations and subjects are documented in the material?
Kansas City area lesbian and gay community members; Lesbian and Gay Community Center of Kansas City; AIDS Service Foundation; several female impersonators.

Collection Growth: We are open to collecting materials that reflect the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities in the greater Kansas City area in any format, from any time period.

Access and Use:
1. What are the requirements for using the organization's/institution's material? There are no special requirements. The partners holding the material are publicly-funded and as such are accessible to all.
2. Are regular hours maintained for access (please specify when), or is it by appointment only? Bulk of the collection holdings are at the Miller Nichols Library, University of Missouri -Kansas City. Hours are 9-4:30, Mon – Fri.
3. Is the site wheelchair accessible? Yes.

History: This collection was first proposed in the spring of 2003 by Drs. Holly Baggett and Ralph Smith of Missouri State University. The Ozarks Lesbian and Gay Archives seeks to document the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender history of the Ozarks region. The archives was formally established during a dedication/open house event on October 30, 2003.

Since the founding of the archives, an active oral history program was initiated that has already generated more than 40 oral histories and will continue to produce additional ones in the future.

Collecting interests:
Missouri State University's Special Collections & Archives Department is actively seeking and able to obtain additional materials. Currently, all time periods and subjects regarding LGBT history, events, issues, literature, and organizations are being considered.
Use requirements:
All materials are open for research during normal reading room hours. Please refer to the website for details.

Finding aids for processed materials can be found at http://library.missouristate.edu/archives/speccoll/olga.htm. Newly acquired materials may not be processed. However, researchers are allowed access to unprocessed collections on a case by case basis. Please contact the Archives with any questions.

News about collections:
Major acquisitions of new materials are announced in the Midwest Archives Conference newsletter, via campus press releases, and in other learned society publications.
