Annual Report, 2003-2004

Mission:  Promotes the preservation and research use of records documenting lesbian and gay history and serves as a liaison between lesbian and gay archives and SAA.

The Lesbian and Gay Archives Roundtable (LAGAR) remains busy with a variety of activities.

Our annual meeting in Los Angeles was attended by approximately 40 people.  Jim Carson gave a report on the activities of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Religious Archives Network.  We discussed LAGAR's involvement with the upcoming Encyclopedia of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender History in America .  LAGAR compiled an appendix of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender libraries, archives and community history projects in the U.S. and Canada for theEncyclopedia , which brought $1,000 into our coffers.  Following our meeting members went to the ONE Institute & Archives, which houses the world's largest research library on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender heritage and concerns, for a tour and reception.

Jim Cartwright will be stepping down as our newsletter editor.  We greatly appreciate Jim's work on LAGAR's behalf and hope he remains active with us in some capacity.  Sarah Demb will be our newsletter editor.  We look forward to her involvement with our biannual newsletter.

The History Project will discuss documenting Boston's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender history at our annual meeting so planning for SAA 2004 is all done.
