Annual Report, 2002-2003

Mission: Promotes the preservation and research use of records documenting lesbian and gay history and serves as a liaison between lesbian and gay archives and SAA.

The Lesbian and Gay Archives Roundtable (LAGAR) has been busy with a variety of activities.

Our annual meeting in Birmingham was attended by approximately 30 people. Linda Long, University of Oregon, and Ron Joullian, Birmingham (Al.) Public Library, gave presentations on the documenting of regional lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender history. Planning for SAA 2003 is underway. We hope to include a tour of the ONE Institute in Los Angeles, CA.

A committee of LAGAR members is updating portions of the Lavender Legacies Guide for an appendix of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender libraries, archives and community history projects in the upcoming Encyclopedia of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender History in America . Susan Edwards, LAGAR webmaster, is redesigning our website which will include our current and past newsletters and an updated Lavender Legacies Guide. Jim Cartwright, LAGAR newsletter editor, continues to publish the newsletter twice a year, once in the winter and once in the summer.

The roundtable endorsed two program proposals for the SAA 2003 meeting. One panel titled "New and Ongoing Strategies for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Archives" was not accepted and the other "Who is in the Workplace Now? Diversity Reflected in Today's Archives" was accepted.
