September 2022 Phone Meeting of Steering Committee

Brief recap on old year and new. Welcome to new members

Report to SAA on year

Susan asked for us to consider our goals for the Section, personal (in terms of time) and professional (in terms of what we want to do concerned with archival history). We agreed to think on this for our next meeting.

Quick engagement of more people in the section, the idea of a contest of images showing what various members consider as evocative as archival history. Susan and Natalie will consider when and how to announce and in what fashion!

By-laws now specify that the vice-chair should serve on the Advisory Board of the journal Information and Culture: A Journal of History. We have no knowledge of this happening in recent years. Dane is willing to serve but Susan will report back on her investigations on this, cc’ing the committee, as we go along.

Possible survey of members. We discussed how to make such a survey. Colin mentioned Qualtric and Bernadette a Googledrive. It was considered that Googledrive is easier to use. Susan asked what we want to ask on the survey. Bernadette suggested using a survey of our committee itself, first. Colin suggested a question on how membership is engaged or interested in ongoing projects and also another question on potential future projects, as well as a question that is open ended and asks about their own conception of projects.

More on the survey: The possibility of a survey of membership to address the following

-revision of the by-laws so that Steering Committee members serve more than one year,

- revision of the by-laws so that the Steering Committee may formally designate a AHN co-editor from among each year's incoming Steering Committee, or from membership 

-joint projects with other Sections, to enhance contributions to news, bibliography, and other efforts

-a better understanding of what is wanted from the Section

- Bernadette and Susan are looking into other surveys within SAA. No one seemed to know about other surveys

Volunteer for writing up coverage of the annual meeting (Dane and Susan), for newsletter and microsite (still thinking on this)
