Fourteen candidates vying for three different offices are slated for SAA’s 2023 ballot (see box at right). In the box at right, click on each candidate's name to read their brief bio, diversity statement, and response to the questions posed by this year's Nominating Committee.
The candidate elected Vice President will serve a one-year term beginning in August 2023 and then will become SAA’s 79th President in 2024–2025. There are three available seats on the Council; those elected will serve three-year terms beginning in August and running through the 2026 Annual Meeting. The three candidates elected to the 2024 Nominating Committee will serve one-year terms beginning immediately.
Questions were developed by SAA's 2023 Nominating Committee: Louis Jones (chair), Jessica Neal, Brittany Newberry, and Council members Stephen Curley and Rachel Winston. Each candidate prepared a diversity statement according to SAA guidelines.
Eligibility and Voting Guidelines
- All full individual members, student members, and primary contacts of institutional members who are in good standing on March 15, 2023, will be eligible to vote in the 2023 Election. Members who join after March 15, 2023, will be eligible to vote in the 2024 Election. Individual associate members are not eligible to vote.
- SAA staff will export and upload voter data to the online ballot system during the first week of April. Voters will be able to access their online ballot between April 4 and April 25, 2023, via a unique username and password included in the email notification. SAA is partnering with Survey & Ballot Systems, a leading provider of secure online voting software for nonprofit associations, to administer this election.
- Any eligible member of SAA may also be placed on the ballot by submitting a petition signed by fifty individual members. Petitions must be received at the SAA office in Chicago by February 10, 2023. No petitions were received this year.
