Description of Tour:
This tour will visit the Gallery Archives of the National Gallery of Art to explore recent developments in the transition from legacy analog documents to a digital environment in a traditional museum archives.   The tour will include an introduction to the scope and functions of the Gallery’s archives and will investigate recent experiences with digitization projects and the acquisition and preservation of born digital museum records.  The presentation also will examine elements of the museum’s digital archival repository, including storage, the purpose-built archival management database, a digital asset manager and other tools.
