We’re delighted to welcome you back to Washington, DC — a city that hosts more than 18 million visitors a year! Archivists and records managers have long known that few places can match the variety and quality of fantastic free attractions that DC has to offer, from the magnificent memorials and monuments on the National Mall to must-see sites like the National Gallery of Art, the museums of the Smithsonian Institution, and the Library of Congress (site of our All-Attendee Reception on Friday night!). But we encourage you to also explore our diverse neighborhoods and partake in the emerging “foodie” culture that has enriched the city since we last met here in 2010. (As just one example, Jennifer Kinniff noted in a post to the Host Committee blog in late April: “Are you smitten with saison? In love with lager? You’re in luck: Washington, DC, is in the midst of a major craft brewing renaissance!”)
We hope you’ll turn to the Host Committee blog (http://archivesdc2014.wordpress.com/) throughout the conference for ideas on where to go and what to see. Visit us at the Advance Registration Desk if you have questions or need advice. Now get out there and explore!
