Call for Pre-conference Workshop Proposals: 2019 Joint Annual Meeting

SAA Education invites members to propose new, in-person pre-conference courses to debut at the 2019 Joint Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas. We are looking for innovative ideas and best practices in two specific areas:

Management

We seek proposals that focus on the HR/administrative side of managing people, facilities, IT infrastructure, finances, fundraising and advocacy-not on collections or materials management. Do you have tips, tricks, and strategies about management to share with your archival colleagues? Tell us about how you enact good management practice in your institution. What do new archives managers need to know during their first week on the job? Proposals that address the "soft skills" of management (like communication, difficult conversations, and team-building) also are welcome.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

We want to build on the great work of Helen Wong Smith and her Cultural Diversity Competency workshop, which was last held in Washington, DC, in August 2018 and continues as a free online course. How should archivists think about issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, both in their collections and in their institutions? How do you best manage diverse collections and teams to ensure equity and inclusion? Do you have a DEI initiative in your repository that can serve as a model for others? Think expansively about DEI in all its manifestations and propose a workshop that will push this conversation forward!

To propose a workshop for consideration for the 2019 Joint Annual Meeting, complete the form here (www2.archivists.org/prof-education/Proposal-Form) by January 15, 2019.
