Call for Pop-Up Session Proposals for 2018 Joint Annual Meeting

The ARCHIVES*RECORDS 2018: Promoting Transparency Program Committee invites submission of proposals for Pop-Up Sessions at the Joint Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, August 12-18. Pop-Up Sessions enliven the conference program by focusing on ideas and content that may have “popped up” between November 2017 (when initial proposals were due) and August. We encourage experimentation and ask you to think creatively to point attendees in new directions.

Submissions should be a simple narrative—of no more than 300 words—that explains the purpose of the session, the intended audience, and how the session will proceed. You need not name specific presenters, but a designated session leader must be identified. Please include that individual’s contact information (institution, mailing address, email, and phone). If you are traveling during the summer, please include the name and contact information of a second contact person. If your Pop-Up submission is a resubmission of a proposal that was not selected for the 2018 program, we ask that you address the Committee’s suggested revisions in your Pop-Up proposal.

The Program Committee has no format preference; your session should be presented in the format that is best suited for the purpose. All Pop-Up rooms will be equipped with standard media hookups (LCD projector, screen, podium microphone). Wireless connections cannot be guaranteed. Rooms will be set either in theater-style or in rounds; we will do our best to accommodate your preference, but cannot guarantee a particular room set.

Deadline for submissions: by 11:59 PM, Central time, on Thursday, May 31.

Five sessions will be selected based on an online vote of CoSA, NAGARA, and SAA members (i.e., not by the Program Committee). You will be notified of the vote results by June 22.

Questions concerning the proposal process may be sent to conference@archivists.org.

The 2018 Program Committee has created a Google spreadsheet to be used as an informal tool to connect individuals who are seeking ideas and/or collaboration on session proposals for the 2018 Joint Annual Meeting. It is not monitored by CoSA, NAGARA, SAA, or the Program Committee and is not part of the official submission process.
