SAA Career Center Call for Advisees and Interviewees

Career Services Offered to Conference Attendees at Joint Annual Meeting!

The SAA Career Center is excited to again provide conference attendees at the Joint Annual Meeting with the opportunity to hone their career development skills. We are offering attendees two forms of career services: advising sessions to speak with other professionals or mock interviews to get ready for that next big job opportunity! If you would like to participate in these career services offered to attendees at  the joint annual meeting, this is your chance to sign up!

During this year's Joint Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, the SAA Career Center is open as follows:

  • Wednesday, August 15: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

  • Thursday, August 16: 8:00 am – 10:00 am; 10:30 am - 4:30 pm

  • Friday, August 17: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

The 2018 career center will offer:

  • Handouts on resume building and cover letters

  • Resume review by appointment

  • General career consulting by experienced SAA members

  • Posted job announcements

  • A place to post your resume

  • Mock interviews

Career Advising

Joint Annual Meeting attendees may schedule an appointment in advance for consultation with a career advisor. Career advising offers an opportunity for new professionals to gain advice from more experienced CoSA, NAGARA, and SAA members.  In addition, attendees seeking to make career changes often seek advising support.

Topics for the in-person career advising session are left up to the advisor and advisee, but we recommend communicating in advance of your in-person meeting about subjects to cover in order to get the most out of your time together.

Mock Interviews

Conference attendees may also sign up for mock interviews. These sessions provide the opportunity to hone your interview skills and have someone review your resume.

In advance of the in-person meeting, you should plan to correspond with your mock interviewer.  You will introduce yourself to the interviewer and provide the job posting you want to 'interview' for, along with your resume and cover letter. From that point on, it will be up to both people to correspond in preparation for the mock interview as if this were a real job prospect.

The mock interview time should focus on asking interview-style questions, followed by the mentor providing the interviewee with feedback regarding the entire process, including professionalism, resume, cover letter, and any other topics that might help the interviewer.

Interested?

Once we have a list of volunteers for interviewers/advisors and members who would like to be the interviewee/advisee, we will make a match.  We will contact both of you to arrange a time and day to meet at the SAA Career Center.

The deadline to sign up as either a mock interviewee or an advisee is July 25.

If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Motszko at jennifer.motszko@gmail.com.

Thank you, and I hope many of you will consider participating in these services offered at the SAA Career Center in Washington, DC!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Motszko
Co-Chair, SAA Career Development Subcommittee
