Historic Oakland Cemetery

When: Tuesday, August 2, 9am-12pm

Where: Historic Oakland Cemetery, 248 Oakland Ave, SE, Atlanta, GA 30312

Register: Pre-Registration Required by July 27

Historic Oakland Cemetery relies heavily on volunteers to help with the upkeep of the gardens and August is prime time for planting irises, which is what we’ll be doing! Our group will meet at the cemetery at 9am, where our guide for the day will give us a brief overview of the cemetery’s history before instructing us on how to lift, divide, and replant the irises.

The work is not physically difficult and no prior experience is required. Oakland will provide all the tools and materials needed for the project. They will even provide light-duty gardening gloves, but recommend bringing your own if you have them as theirs are “one size fits all.”

It will be August in Atlanta, so expect high temperatures and high humidity. We recommend everyone bring water, sunscreen, and a hat as you will be outside in the sun.

Please contact Host Committee member Angelique Richardson at arichardson@archatl.com with any questions about the project or registration form.
