In 1717, King George was not doing well in the polls, and his political advisors suggested that he do something big — to get the people behind him — like a summer party on the Thames. Handel, the most popular composer in London, was commissioned to write this music for a giant public concert.
Join us on three Fridays in July and August and escape the summer heat with concert experiences we’ve hand-crafted for you — then let the gentle summer-evening breezes wash over you as you relax on Severance Hall’s beautiful outdoor terrace with great drinks and great company. Special “happy hour” drink prices will be offered in the hour prior to each concert, so arrive early — and linger afterwards, too!
