Description:

Nearly every day, we hear about something happening in the world that could potentially impact our archive, collection, or parent institution. Thinking through strategy when you’re not in a crisis allows you to be more creative, more analytical, and more curious. Advance planning helps you avoid making knee-jerk decisions that hurt the organization in ways that you didn’t consider.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will use a guided worksheet to assess their organization’s current reality, scan the external environment, and use what they learn to create clear, actionable decision pathways. You’ll take the first steps to analyze your internal context and consider external impact on your organization. This builds the foundation to identify what your organization can, and can’t, control and the potential impact on your programs and operations. You’ll walk away with an outline for your organization to proactively plan for the unknown so that your team can make informed and thoughtful decisions under pressure and move forward with confidence.

Learning Outcomes:
Assess your organization's internal strengths, challenges, and current operating environment to establish a baseline for strategic decision-making.
Analyze external factors and emerging trends that could affect your organization's programs, operations, and long-term sustainability.
Develop a practical decision-making framework that helps your team identify what it can control, anticipate potential scenarios, and respond thoughtfully rather than reactively.
