Chicago, 2026—Amanda Greenwood, archivist of the University of Virginia’s Claude Moore Health Sciences Library, was appointed Publications Editor of the Society of American Archivists (SAA). She began her three-year term earlier this year. The appointment was made by the SAA Council following a six-month search.
Greenwood will help a program that has published over 100 books along with dozens of case studies and other content since 2000. The Publications Editor is responsible for setting a vision and providing philosophical guidance for the program, directing the work of the twelve-member Publications board, acquiring and reviewing manuscripts, and maintaining a transparent review process.
Greenwood, who holds an MSIS from the University at Albany – SUNY and an ALM from Harvard Extension School, has published widely in the archives profession. Her work has appeared in SAA’s journal, American Archivist; SAA’s magazine, Archival Outlook; James Joyce Quarterly; James Joyce Journal; and the Journal of Digital Media Management. Most recently, she contributed two chapters to A Practical Guidebook to Trauma-Informed Archival Practice: Best Practices and Case Studies (Bloomsbury, 2026). She has presented widely, giving presentations at the SAA Annual Meeting, ALA-RBMS, the Digital Library Federation (DLF) Forum, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC), the International Internet Preservation Consortium Web Archiving Conference, and the Trauma-Informed Archives Community of Practice Meeting, among others.
Within SAA, Greenwood served on the American Archivist Editorial Board and acted as a steering committee member for the SAA Web Archiving Section. She acted as a mentor for SAA’s mentoring program in 2022 and is currently also serving as an SAA Career Counselor. Additionally, Greenwood is a member of the Board of Directors for the James Joyce Society of Korea and an International Advisory Editor for its publication, the James Joyce Journal. She serves on the ArchivesSpace User Advisory Council and acts as a member of the User Document subteam. In 2024, Greenwood co-founded Webjam, a virtual coworking space for the web archiving community.
“It’s important that archivists have a role in documenting and shaping our own profession,” said Greenwood. “There is so much innovative work happening in archives and by people who are in archives-adjacent positions, sometimes in small repositories or in areas of practice that haven’t received much attention in scholarship. I love the idea of finding those stories and supporting the people making them.”
Greenwood succeeds Stacie Williams, who completed her second three-year-term as SAA Publications Editor this summer.
