Encoded Archival Description is a non-proprietary standard for the encoding of finding aids for use in a networked (online) environment. Documentation is hosted by the Library of Congress. The standard is maintained and developed by the SAA Standards Committee’s Technical Subcommittee for Encoded Archival Description.
The Encoded Archival Description Tag Library (Version EAD3) supersedes all earlier versions and is freely available for download as a PDF (see "Attachment" below). A soft cover edition is available for purchase from the SAA Bookstore.
