Full Name: Stephanie Bayless, CA
Institution: National Archives at San Francisco
Government Sector: Federal
Statement of Interest:
As a relative newcomer to government archives – I’ve been Director of the National Archives at San Francisco for two years – I’m excited by the opportunity to become involved with the Government Records Steering Committee. As our volume of records grows and our amount of funding shrinks, it is vital that we are able to collaborate with colleagues to develop creative solutions to our challenges. I see the GRS as our space to do this - as a way to expand our water cooler conversations about accountability, accessibility, and policy across all levels of government. In the era of post-truth and fake news, it is important that we as keepers of such a vital part of the historical record maintain a strong voice within SAA and the archival community at large. I’d love to help GRS do just that.
Throughout my career I’ve served on various committees, task forces, and boards for local, regional, and national archival groups. Specific to SAA, I’ve served on three award subcommittees, was Key Contact for Arkansas for several years, and spent a rewarding term as Co-Chair of the Women’s Collections Roundtable. I’m in a good position to apply the knowledge learned in my prior service to the activities of the GRS.

Full Name: Sarah Lambert-Sheffield
Institution: M&O Contractor for the SPR at the Department of Energy
Government Sector: Federal
Statement of Interest:
I am coming up on the anniversary of my first year working in Government Records. Before my current position as a contractor for the Department of Energy I did not know anything about this career path. I was able to go through NARA training this past October and I learned much about the importance and complexity of the records world. I became involved with SAA because I have never been a one-track person. I love seeing the intersections between the various fields and finding the ways that they can inform each other. As SAA records managers we are in a unique position to tap into both the archival side of our jobs as well as the unique responsibilities we have as government records custodians. I look forward to becoming more involved and I would be honored to serve as a member of the steering committee.

Full Name: Ryan Leimkuehler
Institution: Kansas State University – Special Collections
Government Sector: State
Statement of Interest:
My name is Ryan Leimkuehler, and I am interested in serving on the Government Records Steering Committee because of the importance of transparency and accessibility of government records at the local, state, and federal levels. I am particularly interested in the interactions between records creators, records managers, and the public who seek to view these records. My role as records manager for Kansas State University has helped me understand the importance of records; even records that creators may feel are mundane tell a story of the agency. I would like further the conversation on training, outreach, and electronic records management within this section and learn from other members on these topics.
