Visual Artists Rights Act

n.A federal law passed in 1990 (17 USC 1 ยง106A), which provides for the 'rights of certain authors to attribution and integrity.'

Notes

The act grants individuals the right to claim authorship of their work; to prevent the use of their names as the authors of works that they did not create; to prevent the use of their names as the authors of the work in the event of a distortion, mutilation, or other modification of the work that would be prejudicial to their honor or reputation; to prevent any intentional distortion, mutilation, or other modification of that work that would be prejudicial to their honor or reputation; and to prevent the intentional or grossly negligent destruction of a work of recognized stature.
