uniform title


n. ~ A word or phrase used as a heading to consistently identify variant forms of a work that appear with a different title.

(AACR2, 25.1) A uniform title provides the means for bringing together all catalogue entries of a work when various manifestations (e.g., editions, translations) of it have appeared under various titles. A uniform title also provides identification for a work when the title by which is known differs from the title proper of the item being cataloged.
