Notes

In motion pictures on film, the soundtrack1 is a physically separate area in which the audio signal is recorded. The soundtrack is commonly an analog signal recorded as patterns of light and dark running parallel to the frames that make up the picture. The signal may also be recorded on a magnetized strip that is coated along the length of the film. In digital and magnetic recordings, the soundtrack is usually a separate channel from the visual signal. - A soundtrack2 is not a complete transcription of the audio portion of a film. It excludes most or all dialog and includes only the music.
