records management program

(Cox 1990, p. 74) To preserve the historical records of local governments, archivists must offer a comprehensive record administration program that promises cost-savings, efficient retrieval of information, and the cultural benefits of the preservation of that government's memory.
(Skupsky and Manta–a 1994, p. 132) A records retention program that reflects consistent procedures based on business needs will generally be legally acceptable. Inconsistent procedures may be viewed as attempts to destroy evidence and circumvent justice. Improper destruction of records 'looks bad' and raises judicial concern about possible evil intent or wrongdoing.
