(also chalking), n. ~ A printing defect in which the ink is not properly fixed on the surface and can be rubbed off.

Citations:
(Roberts and Etherington 1982) The vehicle penetrates the paper but the pigment is left lying loosely on the surface. The defect is caused either by an ink that is too mobile, or by a paper that is too absorbent.
