movie still

(also film still, still picture), n. Photographs made during the production of a motion picture, showing the actors and sets.

Notes

Movie stills appear to be scenes from the production; they do not show the equipment and supporting staff that are not visible in the final production. They are commonly used for publicity. A photograph made from a frame of the motion picture itself is called a frame enlargement. Movie stills are generally of much higher quality than frame enlargements.
