Information Technology - 8-bit Single-byte Coded Graphic Character Sets

n. ~ A standard (ISO/IEC 8859) that defines eight-bit graphic character sets.

Notes:

The standard is divided into several parts, each defining a different character set with graphic characters appropriate to different languages, including Latin, West European, East European, South European, North European, Cyrillic, Arabic, Greek, Hebrew, Turkish, and Nordic. The standard includes several Latin character sets for different languages that use variants of the Roman alphabet. The standard defines only 191 printing characters in each set; unspecified characters are reserved for control characters.
