imbibition process

Relationships

n. ~ A photomechanical process to make prints from photographs by creating a gelatin relief matrix that is used to transfer dye to an emulsion on paper.

Notes:

The dye transfer process is one of the best known examples of the imbibition process. The imbibition process can be used to make color images by creating separation negatives, which are then used to create different matrices. Each matrix is used to print a different color ink, which combine to form a full color image.
