enterprise architecture

n. ~ A method to relate an organization's goals and objectives to a technology system that integrates all of the organization's data and business processes.

(GAO 2002, p. 75) An enterprise architecture . . . describes an agency in both 1) logical terms, such as the interrelated business processes and business rules, information needs and flows, and work locations and users; and 2) technical terms, such as hardware, software, data, communications, and security attributes and standards. An enterprise architecture provides these perspectives both for the current environment and for the target environment, as well as a transition plan for sequencing from the current to the target environment.
