electronic signature

n. A digital mark, code, or other symbol that identifies an individual and that indicates responsibility for or consent to the content of the material to which it is affixed.

Notes

Electronic signatures range from simple to highly complex and secure. They may be nothing more than a name typed in ASCII characters at the end of the body of a document. They may also be computer code using encryption keys to demonstrate that the message has not be altered and to authenticate the identity of the signer.
