edit

n. ~ 1. The process of revising a work, especially for final publication or release. - 2. The act of holding back or modifying ideas expressed to make them appropriate to a particular audience.

Notes:

Editing generally refers to the effort of someone other than the author, the latter being said to revise a draft. In the context of audio and moving image materials, editing emphasizes selecting and assembling pieces, which may have been created in one order, into the final order that may eliminate much of the original material.
