EBCDIC

Relationships
Broader Term:

n. ~ An eight-bit binary code used to represent characters in IBM computers.

Notes:

An acronym for Extended Binary Coded Decimal Interchange Code. Because the binary representation of characters differs from that used by ASCII, the order of characters is different. EBCDIC defines 258 characters, where standard ASCII defines only 128. IBM no longer uses EBCDIC in most of its machines.
