direct read after write

Abbreviation Of:

n. (DRAW, abbr.) ~ An error-detection technique used in writing to mass storage devices in which the data is read and verified immediately after it is written.

(Dictionary of Computing 1996, p. 154) This term is sometimes erroneously used in an optical-storage context simply to imply that written information is immediately ready for reading, without an intermediate processing operation as would be required for photographic recording.
