density

n. ~ 1. The relative difference between the lightest and darkest part of an image, as measured by a densitometer. - 2. Photography · The relative amount of the material that forms the image. - 3. Computing · The relative amount of information that can be stored in a given area of a storage medium.

Notes: 

In photography, areas of high density typically appear dark or opaque, whether in a negative or positive image. Areas of low density are light or transparent.
