color management

n. ~ The process of ensuring that hues and tones are translated between imaging systems as accurately as possible.

Notes:

Different color management systems have different capacities for reproducing the entire range of colors that the human eye can see. Printed images have a smaller range of tones than images viewed by transmitted light. Similarly, different computer monitors may display the same file with very different colors due to variations in hardware design and age. Color management systems attempt to minimize differences by calibrating equipment and processes to standard colors to control the appearance of color.
