A trusted third party that supports authentication infrastructures by registering individuals and organizations, and then issuing them an X.509 digital certificate attesting to their identity.

A certificate authority issues public and private keys in the form of digital certificates for message encryption and decryption. By issuing, managing, and validating these certificates, a certificate authority guarantees the authenticity of the user.
