black and white

adj.Having neutral tones; the absence of color.Monochrome.

Notes

Typically used to describe photographic, film, and video processes that render scenes by representing the brightness of objects as white, black, and intermediate tones. In common parlance, the phrase is used to describe any image that fails to capture natural color, although the image may have a distinct, single tone. In its strictest sense, 'black and white' is limited to those images that represent brightness in shades of gray, as distinguished from monochrome processes. For example, cyanotypes are monochromatic, but because of their distinctive blue shade are not accurately described as 'black and white.'
