(Duranti 1998, p. 96) The addressee is the person to whom the document is directed within its intellectual form, and may or may not coincide with the person to whom the document is issued or delivered. For example, a letter of appointment of a professor is directed to the appointee, notwithstanding the fact that we may be examining the copy sent to the department concerned.
