An archivist, librarian, and preservation administrator for over thirty-five  years, Gregor Trinkaus-Randall has worked with archives, libraries, museums, and municipal buildings in addressing preservation and security concerns since 1981. These include Purdue University, the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Longwood University, and the Orthodox Church of America. For the past twenty-seven years, he has developed and administered the Massachusetts’ statewide preservation program for libraries and archives. He served as the Co-Chair of COSTEP MA (Coordinated Statewide Emergency Preparedness) for cultural heritage organizations in Massachusetts.

A part-time preservation consultant since 1981, Gregor has provided advice to archives, libraries, and museums on the preservation steps that could/should be implemented to extend the viable, usable lifespan of their collections, addressing such issues as disaster preparedness and response, fire protection, environmental controls, security, and the design of archival storage facilities in smaller institutions. As the author of Protecting Your Collections: A Manual of Archival Security (Society of American Archivists, 1995), he also has advised institutions on how to best protect their holdings.
