Marcy Silver Flynn

Marcy Silver Flynn is a consultant specializing in collections management services for visual materials. She formed Silver Image Management in 1994 to support responsible stewardship in archives, libraries, and other collections. Most consulting projects include preparing collection assessment reports, establishing best practices, selecting standards, planning for processing and providing training to improve access and preservation. Prior to consulting, Marcy worked in prints and photographs departments at the Library of Congress (1991-1994), the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (1988-1991), and the Maryland Historical Society (1984-1988).

Marcy is co-chair of SAA’s Standards Committee (2010-2011), having completed a term as a member of the Committee (2005-2008).  She is also the Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials (Graphics) liaison to SAA.  Marcy is an active member of SAA, serving as liaison to the Association for Information and Image Management (1998-2005 ), member of the Program Committee for the Los Angeles annual meeting (2003), and chair of the Visual Materials Cataloging and Access Roundtable (1996-1997). Marcy developed SAA's Understanding Photographs: Introduction to Archival Principles and Practices workshop in collaboration with MaryLynn Ritzenthaler and Diane Vogt-O'Connor.

She holds a BA in American Studies from Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA) and a MA in American Civilization from George Washington University.
