Herbert Hartsook

Herb Hartsook is director of South Carolina Political Collections at the University of South Carolina. He founded SCPC in 1991 and since 1996 has helped raise more than $1,500,000 to support SCPC's mission. He has grown the collections, which document government, society, and politics in the post World War II era, from thirteen in 1991 to almost one hundred today.
He has also worked at the Bentley Library, the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, and the South Caroliniana Library. He is active professionally and has presented workshops on collecting legislative papers, fundraising, donor relations and other subjects for local, state, and regional entities as well as SAA. He has chaired SAA's Manuscript Repositories and Oral History sections, the Congressional Papers Roundtable, and is currently chair of SAA's Government Affairs Working Group and the Association of Centers for the Study of Congress' Archives Committee. He also serves as oral historian for the South Carolina Bar Foundation.
Hartsook received his MA in History-The Administration of Archives in 1979 from the University of Michigan.
