Carla Summers

Carla M. Summers is Executive Director of the Alachua County Historic Trust: Matheson Museum, Inc., a local history museum, archives, library, historic house and urban forest in Gainesville, Florida.
She has worked in Florida her entire career, first at the State Archives of Florida, then at research libraries at the University of Florida and University of Central Florida. She also served as archivist to two U. S. Senators and has an extensive consulting career.
She’s been an SAA member since 1980 and is currently serving on the Development Committee of SAA’s Foundation. She served on the SAA Council, 2005-2008 (Executive Committee in final year), the Technology Best Practices Task Force, 2008-2009; College and University Section: Steering Committee, 1988-1992; Congressional Records Roundtable, Steering Committee, 1999-2002; and the Program Committees for Chicago, 1997 and New Orleans, 1993. She is a charter member of the Academy of Certified Archivist, serving as its Treasurer, 1993- 1997 and on the Finance Committee, 1998-1999; 2004-2005. And she is the founding President of the Society of Florida Archivists and has just moved to retirement status with the Institute of Certified Records Management.
Her development work has included the design and implementation of campaigns to support the processing of congressional records and to fund institutional anniversary events through the preservation and interpretation of archival records. Summers worked extensively with donors including those funding special projects such as digitization of collections. She has managed fundraising events and provided stewardship to the many businesses, families and individuals who give to archival repositories in Florida. Currently, she’s involved with a campaign to renovate an archives building and working with others to hold a major fundraising event to provide operating funds for the Matheson Museum.
Summers holds a MSLS from Florida State University with archival coursework.
