SAA member Gabrielle M. Dudley was confirmed by the US Senate on February 17 to serve on the Civil Rights Cold Case Review Board. Dudley, Instruction Archivist at the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library at Emory University, was recommended by SAA and nominated by President Biden in June 2021.

February 15, 2022—SAA has endorsed a statement prepared by the Council of State Archivists (CoSA) regarding the essential characteristics of the Archivist of the United States, in light of David S. Ferriero announcing his retirement this spring. As the primary organization representing the custodians of state records, CoSA is obligated to articulate its expectations for the role and relationship between the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and the various state and territorial archives.

The Society of American Archivists mourns the passing on February 5, 2022, of Anne R. Kenney, 72, a Fellow of SAA who served as 48th president in 1992–1993. An influential leader in digital preservation, she enjoyed a long career at Cornell University.
