n. (FERPA, abbr.) ~ A law (20 USC 1232g) protecting student and parent rights to access their own student records kept by the school, and restricting access to those records by others without the permission of the student or parents.

Notes: 

The amendment allows directory information to be made public without permission, including the student name, address, telephone listing, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, degrees and awards received, and the most recent previous educational agency or institution attended by the student. Commonly referred to as the Buckley Amendment, in reference to the name of the bill's sponsor.
