Intellectual Property Working Group Seeks Intern

SAA’s Intellectual Property Working Group (IPWG) seeks an intern to support its advocacy work by providing research and other assistance. The intern will serve as a non-voting member for a term that ends in August 2016. Interns are expected to attend the SAA Annual Meeting and periodic (approximately quarterly) phone conference meetings of the IPWG.

Desired Skills:  Interns are either archives students or young career professionals with less than three years of professional experience. Required attributes include subject matter expertise in the field of copyright law, strong writing and research skills, and the ability to complete projects without direct supervision. Interns must be current members of SAA.

Application Process:  Interns are appointed by the SAA President (Dennis Meissner) in consultation with the IPWG chair (Aprille McKay). Please submit a current résumé/CV, along with a brief statement of interest in the IPWG and the internship (up to 150 words), to saahq@archivists.org.  Application deadline: Tuesday, November 3.

About the Intellectual Property Working Group:  Intellectual property issues are complex and working with them requires a special expertise. They often require a very quick response, such as when SAA is asked to join litigation or respond to draft legislation. The Working Group’s purpose is to ensure that timely expertise is readily available to the SAA Council. IPWG responds to requests for assistance from the Council, tracks intellectual property issues of concern to archivists, and drafts for Council approval responses or position papers as needed.
