SNAP 2014 Special Elections: Candidate Statements

Vice Chair/Chair Elect Candidate Statements

Roxanne Dunn

I am currently employed as the Special Collections and Archives Librarian at Southeast Missouri State University. Having recently been elected to serve on SNAP's steering committee, I have enjoyed the limited time I have worked "behind the scenes" with SNAP and feel I can step up to help lead our RT. I have gained much experience during my first year of employment and I feel that will translate well to assist others with job hunting and other issues new professionals and students face. I am also at a point in my career and personal life that lends itself well to extracurricular activities (outside of work) and I look forward to helping lead our RT in many capacities.

Gabrielle Spiers

My name is Gabrielle Spiers and I graduated from Wayne State University in August 2012 with an MLIS and a concentration in Archival Administration. I currently work as a Digital Research Archivist for the Citizen Archivist Project Inc in Washington, DC. I am running for vice chair/chair elect because SNAP has been a valuable resource for me and I want to continue that for others. I understand the struggles that students and new professionals face and I want the chance to advocate for them. I firmly believe that professional involvement is important for professional growth.

Samantha Winn

I graduated from Drexel University in June 2014 and recently began my first professional position as the Collections Archivist for Virginia Tech. I am deeply committed to advancing the interests of students and new professionals within the Society of American Archivists. I first joined SNAP in 2012, as an archives paraprofessional interested in pursuing a graduate degree. SNAP was vitally important to me as a student, both as a space to engage important issues across the profession and as a dynamic peer network. I have served on the SNAP steering committee as an ex-officio member since October 2013.

As chair-elect, I would seek to strengthen the SNAP roundtable as a safe space for students and new professionals to tackle important issues, a venue for collaboration with allied professionals, and a training ground for future SAA leaders. I believe that SNAP, through the participation of a diverse and engaged membership, can positively shape the future of the American archival profession. I would feel honored to serve as Vice Chair/Chair-Elect for 2014-2015.
