Brief summary of the collections
Out North Contemporary Art House records, 1984-2011 (23.6 cubic feet): This is a new accession that came in June 2011. Out North was founded by Gene Dugan and other activists in 1985. For the first four years, Out North did a tour of plays that explored the gay and lesbian experience. Since 1993 they expanded their mission to providing a "forum for underrepresented artists, especial artists with disabilities, artists of color, LGBTQ artists, and artists whose work pushes traditional boundaries of aesthetics and content." The collection includes the administrative records of the theater, photographic materials and posters, of Out North productions and events.
George T. Harper papers, 1803-2004 (12.7 cubic feet): George T. Harper was a historian that researched African American history in Alaska. In addition, he created and performed his one-man show Two Headed Turtle that related his experience living as an African American gay man. The George T. Harper collection contains correspondence, biographical clippings, programs/advertisements of events at which he presented or attended, papers related to his research and play, the Two Headed Turtle, and Harper’s genealogical research.
Charles V. Lucier papers, 1992 (0.02 cubic feet): Charles V. Lucier was an Alaskan anthropologist who studied Eskimo culture and house ruins at Kotzebue Sound, taught in school in Karluck and Talkeetna, Alaska, worked for the Cook Inlet Native Association and Urban Natives United dance groups, and was involved with recording folklore in Alaska. Included in his collection are materials relating to Oregon Citizens Alliance's anti-homosexual rights amendment to the Springfield City Charter in 1992 and records and handouts of the group Springfield Together Opposing Prejudice, which campaigned against the amendment.

Indices to the collection
Finding aids are created for each collection and at varying levels of description. Some collections have collection level description while some finding aids have item level description. Finding aids are available online in html format, can be found via google, and are searchable via the Consortium Library’s Summons search box. We also have MARC records that were created for roughly the first 500 collections.

Updating Collection Descriptions:
Once the number of Gay and Lesbian collections grows, a topical guide (using Springshare’s LibGuides) will be created. The topical guide would be updated when a new collection arrives and researchers who subscribe to our guide will be notified. We do regularly post descriptions of newly accessible collections to our Facebook page, and the Gay/Lesbian collections would be included in that process.
