UAW Letter Campaign
Dear Colleagues,
I have just received, from Maria Catalfio, the dreadful news that the UAW administration has made the decision to close the UAW Research Library. A library that was formed in the depression during much more difficult times than today.
As a former UAW Research Library head we asking that the members of CIRL, so many of whom have been so supportive in past years, write letters of protest and reason to two of the administration who have the power to rescind this disastrous closure.
The shutdown is imminent, so please write immediately.
Many thanks, dear friends.
As we say in our unions.
In Solidarity,
Jane

Dear President King/Director Ewing:
I believe that the UAW Research Library's mission is too important to its users to be altogether closed, thereby preventing use of its important resources to UAW members, scholars, and independent researchers alike. It especially seems like an overreaction considering that the UAW Research Library opened during the depression, a time in which the United States faced more difficult times than it does today.
It’s important to note that even in these difficult economic times, closing the library, rather than streamlining it or scaling back a bit, is a drastic move that will only serve to hamper the UAW's ability to harness the power of information and research to do the important work of sustaining and building the labor movement.
I ask you to seriously consider other options so that union members, educators, and scholars do not lose access to this important resource.
