permuted index

n.An index that contains an entry for each nontrivial word in a title, with the entry words alphabetized and centered on the page surrounded by the rest of the title.

Notes

In a permuted index, as much of the title as possible appears on either side of the entry word; long titles may be truncated at the beginning or the end. A stop list may be used to suppress entries for words with no value for retrieval, such as articles and conjunctions, or a go list may be used to generate entries for specific words.
