neutral test card

(also gray card), n.A standard target used to calibrate photographic exposures.

Notes

A neutral test card reflects 18% of the light striking it, roughly halfway between the least (2-5%) and greatest (95-98%) possible. The value4 is commonly called middle gray. The gray has a neutral tone so that it can be used to determine color balance.
