nearline storage

Relationships

n. ~ 1. A technique to provide automated access to data from media that must be mounted before being read. - 2. The device or media where such data is kept.

Notes:

A contraction of 'near online storage'. Examples of nearline storage include tape and disk libraries. Nearline storage is slower than online storage, which uses media that are permanently mounted on the system.
