fire extinguishing system

n. A technology installed in a building to suppress a fire after its ignition.

Notes

Fire extinguishing systems use many different techniques. Water sprinklers may be wet or dry pipe and may trigger all sprinklers or only those sprinklers directly over the fire. Gas systems suffocate a fire by replacing available oxygen in the room with Halon, carbon dioxide, or other gas. Misting systems create a dense fog.
