facsimile

n. ~ 1. A reproduction that simulates the appearance of the original as closely as possible. - 2. A system that enables a document to be reproduced remotely by transmitting its image, usually over a telephone line. - 3. Usually fax ยท The reproduction of a document so transmitted.

Notes: 

A facsimile1 attempts to reproduce the visual and tactile qualities of the original. - Facsimiles2 were originally analog devices that used paper documents as the original and copy. They now use digital technologies, and the original document, the copy, or both may be electronic and viewed on a computer rather than printed.
