crayon enlargement

n.A photographic print, typically a portrait, in which the image has been reinforced with pastels or an airbrush.

Notes

Crayon enlargements are typically made using a bromide print. The photographic image may be underexposed and serve as a guide for a final work that looks more like a drawing. The final image may be monochromatic or may use colored crayons to give the sense of a color photograph. Common in the first part of the 20th century.
